ANNA STARCK

ABOUT
_L6A4046_edited_edited.jpg

Anna Starck is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores the sacred within ordinary life. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and sound, she creates contemporary myths through archetypes, shared symbols, social conventions, and collective memory. Her work examines the invisible connections between people and the ways societies construct meaning, belonging, and hope.

Donkey of Hope

During my SVA residency in New York, I created Donkey of Hope—an oversized rocking toy for adults. The work connects two symbols: the donkey of the messianic promise in Jewish tradition and the donkey of the American Democratic Party. For me, both carry hope for renewal, peace, and a different future.

A procession of small figures forms the donkey’s mane, following a star on a shared journey toward transformation.

WORKS
Made in Heaven

A series of 12 works, in a technique of marker on paper. The series examines the creation story according to Jewish tradition, presenting a contemporary perspective on the creation narrative based on the premise that Eve (the first woman) carries within her DNA associated with a dark-skinned woman.

Project "Shadow"

Inspired by Carl Jung's concept of the Shadow.

Shadow is a series of thirteen black-on-black drawings exploring the hidden dimensions of the human psyche. At first glance, each work appears as a monochrome black surface. Only the movement of light reveals the concealed image, making light an active participant in the viewing experience.
